Expansion of Parking and Live Scan / ID Badge Services at UCLA

These offices provide fundamental services to the UCLA campus and often act as the port of entry for new professors, residents, students and visitors. It is important, therefore, that these Offices provide a cordial welcome with efficient logistical services.
The Parking Services Office website lists the following information:
"Parking Services issues approximately 16,000 annual staff and faculty permits, 7000 quarterly student permits, 4000 quarterly permits to graduate students parking as staff, and about 7000 various other permits for special campus events throughout the year. In addition, 3000 summer session student permits are sold annually."
Despite this tremendous demand and level of activity, the Parking Services Offices is staffed by only a handful of individuals. The presence of a persistent line throughout the day suggests a loss of productivity across all departments of our Institution.
Similarly, two separate lines persist in the Neuropsychiatric Institute at the Security Office that provides Live Scan and ID Badge services. Individuals, ranging from volunteers to attending physicians, can experience wait times of over an hour. This is fair neither for the staff, who strive to meet the demand with limited resources, nor for those seeking services.
We suggest an investigation into the potential expansion of capacity of both of these Services in order to reduce wait times, improve the quality of essential services for staff and users, and minimize the loss of productivity involved in such activities.
