As a long time resident, and citizen of the Florida Shores Community of Edgewater, Florida I am personally tired of seeing people speeding through our neighborhood like they are rushing to a fire. There are a large number of children in this residential district who play outside, or walk the paths to the park, or school etc. The Edgewater Police Department has been aware of this problem since as early as 2003 that I know of personally, and yet we continue to have a problem. I have even proposed to the city that we install speed humps in the neighborhood for this problem, however the response was that it wasn't economically feasible, or that the city did not have enough money in the budget for the speed humps. The city of Edgewater recieves over a half a milion a year in taxes from gas hikes and other miscellaneous prgrams meant for road repairs in this city, yet they don't have the funds to install speed humps? I propose once again that the citizens of this community band together and demand that the City Council install speed humps to help deter the speeders in this area causing the lives of our very children to be endangered. Should we wait until a child is lying in the road dead from a speeding car to act, or is now the time to act, and prevent such a tragedy?
