Give us Our Balconies

We, Wilkes University tenants of University Towers, feel it is unjust and unfair to extinguish the privileges of us deserving students because of the disrespectful acts of a select few. We have earned our right to be here based on academic achievement and lack of behavioral reprimands. We pay an additional tuition fee to enjoy the environment of the Towers. Our balconies are used for relaxation, enjoying the skylight view of Wilkes-Barre, reading, calmly socializing, and (for some) cigarette smoking. By taking away these privileges, Wilkes is creating a morale of dissatisfied, confused, and frustrated students. Some of us have even invested in patio furniture and dйcor.
We understand that we were warned ahead of time in the event of misbehavior. However, the notice stated, Bottom lineif you are caught misusing the balconies, they will be permanently closed off! This does not state that each apartment will lose their balcony, it is interpreted that only the immature students will be punished.
To fairly address the reports of misconduct, we suggest investigating and punishing those suspected of unruly behavior.
We are not children. We do not need to be babysat or gated in. Closing off our personal balconies is an unjust punishment to the vast majority of respectful, pleasant students residing in the University Towers.
