Ms. Peggy Breckenridge, Mayor, Tiny Township
LHonorable Maxime Bernier, Minister, Industry Canada
There are large portions of the 8,400 households with 26,000 persons in areas of Tiny Township (Simcoe County, Ontario) who still are not served by your high-speed internet services.
The lack of high-speed internet service in the 21st Century is not acceptable to families or businesses.
The CRTC granted Bell Canada $94 millions of federal tax dollars to provide DSL service to under-served locations in Ontario and Quebec. But this is all spent, and most of Tiny Townships 8,400 households and 26,000 residents are still not served.
Industry Canada has mandated that high-speed internet be extended by 2009 to 98\% of rural areas south of North Bay, yet Bell executives in charge of internet services say they have NO PLANS for Tiny.
Rogers Communications offers attractive bundles combining two or more of cable TV, digital HDTV, high-speed internet, home phone, internet phone, and cell phone service for a fraction of the cost of paying for each service individually. But they also say they have NO PLANS to extend their service in Tiny.
This petition has been created to request Bell and/or Rogers to extend their high-speed internet services to all areas of Tiny Township. We also request the Council of the Township of Tiny and Industry Canada to collaborate on making these providers take action NOW.
We urge you, as providers of high-speed cable and/or DSL telephone line internet service, to extend your services to ALL areas of Tiny Township by December 31, 2007.
