Honking Mad Commuters of Hilton Head & Bluffton

We, the residents of Hilton Head and Bluffton are sick and tired of the Saturday traffic back up onto Hilton Head Island, as well as the commuter traffic jam that occurs on a daily basis between 4 & 6 pm. outgoing through Moss Creek. Saturday, Mile after mile of aggravated drivers line up in traffic from the first mile on Hilton Head to well past Buck Island and Backwater, occasionally to I-95! The economic impact to Bluffton businesses is terrible. Residents reduce their patronizing of Bluffton businesses, fearful of getting stuck in traffic. Visitor to our lovely island get a bad impression of Hilton Head before their vacation even begins, often impacting if they will ever return. Daily commuters coming on, and leaving the island face daily delays getting home. The cost of gas alone wasted sitting in traffic is of concern. It is our hope that by seeing the number of people fed up with our Saturday traffic situation, and commuter traffic, that our SCDOT will consider teaming up with local law enforcement to either adjust the traffic light for smooth flow or provide a policeman to manually adjust the timing for maximum green time. Light adjustment or manual adjustment will by far be more economically feasible that adding multiple traffic lanes. By signing your name to this petition you will be telling our SC Department of Transportation that you are sick and tired of no action being taken. You will be sharing you anguish with the elected officials of the Town of Hilton Head Island and the elected Town officials of Bluffton. We are honking mad and we just can't take anymore. We challenge you, elected officials of Hilton Head and Bluffton, and you, decision makers of our SCDOT to be people of action. Make a simple improvement to impact so many.
