Horse Webbers Against Cruelty

This petition is to highlight to the Animal Welfare Societies of Great Britain and the Government the prejudice against horses. Many Cats, Dogs and other animals are protected properly by the likes of the RSPCA and the Law, but Horses do not seem to be.
Recently we have had horses escaping and causing accidents and in the worse case horses died and people were injured. I myself (and I know a lot of the people who will be signing this) have had very bad experiences with the RSPCA as far as helping neglected horses. I have 2 rescued horses, so I feel very strongly about this.

Examples:
1.On more than one occasion I have caught loose horses on the road, had to sort them out as they were hurt and distressed only to have to hand them back over to the owners who dump them back in the fields where they have got out from, with no
thanks just a pack of lies and a look of disgust thrown in my direction. They have little to no secure fencing; they regularly run out of water. I have reported them to the RSPCA many times only to be told they can't do anything even though the biggest culprit is banned from keeping horses and he's got at least 3 !!! I have phoned the police about them escaping on the road and they either don't turn up, or turn up late and never follow it up !!!!

2. Jo rescued a pony that was on loan to her local riding school, It had been beaten and escaped on to the road only for the riding school owner to say "just leave him, I don't care after what he did to me", Jo now has taken the pony in, the owner of the pony is grateful and he is now going to be able to spend a happy life with Jo.

3. A post from the horseweb-uk msg board - In brief, at Easter 2 horses arrived at the small livery yard where I keep my 2 boys, they were in a dreadful state one in particular being grossly underweight and covered in rain scald. The horses owner
has not been to see them for a fortnight and although one has picked up on the good grass the other has gone downhill further and is pitiful. The yard owners have tried everything to contact the owner but it appears he has given a false address and now is not answering his mobile. My friend and I are very concerned and on Monday when it was dreadful weather I called the RSPCA. The yard owners have gone mad with me as I confessed to them what I had done. The chap called the vet independently and she, the police and the RSPCA are coming tomorrow to assess the situation. I'm not sorry I did it; I wish I had done it sooner as the little bay is probably going to be destroyed. It looks like I will be chucked off the yard for being a troublemaker but I don't care.

These are just a few examples of the injustice of it all. This should not be happening ... As well as obvious neglect there is the whole over breading issue to be tied into this,

Examples:

Lynda : Not far from where I live there is a man who breeds several coloured foals every year. The mares are poor quality; as are the foals, but he doesnt seem to care. Now he has a two-year-old filly (possibly two if the Dunn is his as well) it has very pretty markings but as usual has a yew neck, cow hocks and looks poor. Next year this baby will probably have a baby of her own, all with a poor diet, by the looks of her she needs worming, and good grazing just to get her in better shape without the added burden of a foal. The owner doesnt even visit every day! We kept our horses in the next field for 8 months and saw the owner twice! The barbed wire fences are falling down, the ground is EXTREMELY wet and muddy being clay. I thought of trying to buy the filly but he will just go out and buy another, what then i cant buy them all! Its one thing to licence horses but people like this will not bother, if the horses are taken away so what, get some more!

Something has to be done ... I am asking you to sign this petition to make the Authorities aware that horses are as equally important for the RSPCA ands other authorities to protect as cats and dogs ...

Thank you

Sharon Bellamy
