Improvements for McAnulty Park / Stonefield Public Park

Stonefield Park has been an important place at the heart of Blantyre for many years. Locals speak fondly of the boating pond, the playparks and annual Gala Days held in the park. Old photos show the park in full bloom, alive with flowers and plants, benches dotted around, a truly beautiful place. Today in the park, the scene could not be any more different. The boating pond is gone, the fantastic play areas people speak of are gone, the floral arrangements are gone. In their place are vast areas of open grass, one run-down play area, a skate-park, a grass football field, an ash pitch more commonly used as a car park and shortcut, a few trees dotted around and a couple of vandalised stone benches. There is broken glass and dog mess wherever you turn. The Gala Days are no more. All that remains of this one beautiful place is a shell, a shell that many locals refuse to bring their children to, a shell that saddens Blantyre natives, a shell that makes newcomers wonder why they don't just build houses on it. The future generations of our town deserve so much more than this. South Lanarkshire Council has spent vast amounts of taxpayers money improving many towns and villages around the area while Blantyre is routinely left out of Budgets for Gala Days, Christmas Lights and so on.
