Our Story;
The little girl above, is our daughter Jessica in November 2005 her life was
Ended by meningococcal septicemia, something we knew nothing about nor did we
Know any of the symptoms. So when Jessica fell ill, we took her to the hospital after spending the whole day there we were told she had gastroenteritis and we were told to take her home, we did as any parents would have done in our case and took her home. But they were wrong, and the next day Jessica died. Because you dont really hear of meningitis,and we had not known of anyone who had been affected by it, it was never really in our mind that it could have been anything other than what the doctors had informed us.
I have never been given a leaflet on meningitis or been told by a doctor the
signs and symptoms, so we (Jessicas family) are campaigning to raise awareness of meningitis and septicemia by asking the health minister to put more adverts on TV especially on the childrens channels as I know that having children you often have it on the childrens channel! (They advertise loan companies and how to sponsor a dog?) Surely they can put an advert on that could teach you the signs and symptoms of meningitis which could save someones life? Not only through this though we want to raise awareness through radio and have more posters put up in doctors surgeries, health centres, schools, playgroups, nurseries and even on buses and trains, if its in your face from all angles then it will be drummed into your mind.
I think its serious that there is something which could kill within 4 hours and the medical profession are still unaware of the signs & symptoms. ISNT IT OUR RIGHT TO BE EDUCATED?
We are trying to get as many names as possible to support us in our campaign to take to the health minister, So Please sign the petition below and send it to as many people as possible.
