Lower the Drinking Age Today

1. When an American citizen turns 18, virtually all other rights are granted to an individual, except the right to drink and purchase alcoholic beverages. This includes the fact that a "minor" can choose to die for his/her country, or even be drafted and forced to die for the country. Yet the right to consume liquor is denied.
2. Along with the above service to our country, "minors" are forced to pay taxes. Cleary the government sees that a young adult is responsible enough to contribute financially to our country, and forces this payment, but does not allow a minor to freely choose how to spend their dispensible income.
3. Several other countries have realized this injustice and have drinking ages lower than 21.
4. If this 21 year old limit is to protect the health of our youth, then why are other equally hazardous dangers allowed at younger ages. Demises such as tobacco and pornography are allowed at the age of 18. As well as gambling in certain areas, and also exotic dancing. Such activities are no more harmful to one's mental, physical, and spiritual life than alcohol creates.
5. The drinking age of 21 creates a "magic day" of irresponsiblity. Instead a younger drinking age could be implemented through such techniques similar to the graduated driver's license used in several states. Allowing alcohol in increments will stop youth's from harming themselves, by preventing them from "overdoing it" when they hit their 21st birthday. This will prevent deaths of alcohol poisoning and sudden destruction that many new 21 year olds experience when they turn, as they focus solely on alcohol. A graduated system would allow a more responsible approach towards coming of age.
6. A better alcohol education program for children could be implemented. As today there is a ineffective campaign in place. Revenue generated from the taxes of added sales of alcohol to those of the new legal age could pay for this program.
Through these principles i have outlined why the 21 year old drinking age is corrupt government policy in it's finest. Join the fight to lower the legal drinking age by signing this petition.
