LPGA Must Denounce Jan Stephensons Racial Remarks

We, the undersigned, support the following statements concerning Jan Stephensons remarks against Asian golfers in the LPGA:

We are outraged over Stephensons blatantly discriminatory comments that Asians are killing the [LPGA] tour and that quotas should be used to keep Asians out of the LPGA.

We denounce Stephensons use of negative stereotypes to characterize her fellow Asian golfers as unmarketable, overlooking their contributions in both bringing the level of womens golf to new heights and bringing new audiences to the LPGA in the United States and abroad.

We assert that discriminatory comments against Asians and Asian Americans must be as strongly and swiftly condemned just as discriminatory comments against any other minority group are.

Thus, we demand that commissioner of the LPGA, Ty Votaw, make a public statement reprimanding Jan Stephenson. Furthermore, we demand that the LPGA impose appropriate fines and suspensions to show that the LPGA will not tolerate racism.
