Whereas, the District Council of LULAC District VIII voted unanimously on March 8, 2008, to issue a resolution of support for the proposed Costa Ibiza Apartments to be built at the 17000 block of Hafer Rd, near FM 1960; and
Whereas, the Costa Ibiza Apartments will serve working families who earn less than 60 percent of the area median income of $57,300; and
Whereas, the Costa Ibiza Apartments will provide 216 units of much needed quality, affordable housing; and
Whereas, the Costa Ibiza Apartments will contribute $240,000 in projected additional property tax revenue; and
Whereas, the first-year impact of the construction of the planned community will contribute approximately $15.9 million of local income, and contribute $1.1 million in local taxes and other revenue for local governments; and 301 local jobs; and
Whereas, the annual recurring impact of the development of Costa Ibiza Apartments will provide $4.8 million in local income, and provide $776,000 in local taxes and other revenue and local governments; and 78 local jobs; and
Whereas, the Costa Ibiza Apartments will provide residents with supportive services for the disabled, and for families with children including after-school programs and summer activities; and
Whereas, the construction of the Costa Ibiza Apartments furthers the Texas League of United Latin American Citizens housing mission, which states: Texas LULAC supports the expansion of affordable housing and increased funding for policies that create government-sponsored matching funds. LULAC opposes discriminatory and predatory lending practices and supports the strengthening of fair housing legislation to hold banking institutions accountable for fair lending practices. LULAC supports the improvement of quality of life for areas known as colonias along the US-Mexico border and elsewhere in the state.
