Following the release of the 2007/2008 fixture schedule, It has come to our attention that the fixture Manchester United versus Chelsea will be played on Saturday 22nd September 2007, the same day as the Jewish day of Atonement (Yom Kippur). This is considered by Jews as one of the holiest days of the year and is observed by Jewish people of every degree of religious observance.

It would be grossly unfair if devout Manchester United and Chelsea fans who spend so much time and money following their team, were unable to watch one of the biggest games of the season purely because of their religious beliefs.

This petition calls for both Manchester United, Chelsea and the Premier league to reach an agreement on moving this fixture to a different date, preserving racial and religious inclusion that has always been a part of English football.
