Medical service training for World Cup Brazil

On 23 March, the Medical Service team of 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil Organizing Committee completed a training session in Maracana, FIFA 14 Coins  the most famous stadium in Rio de Janeiro.

The purpose of the training is to exam as well as to enhance the team’s preparation for the upcoming World Cup. The Medical Service is mainly responsible for treating injured players on the field. Mangers involved in the session were Luis Fernando Correia, the general coordinator of the LOC’s Medical Services, and Michael Simoni, medical services coordinator in Rio de Janeiro.

Firstly the team went through a medical teaching in classroom, and then they were put on the field to practice the theories. A set of procedures were carried out to help the team manage different situations, including those duties they had to do when called by the substitutes’ bench. Each team is made up of one doctor and three medics. Every team took care of the injure treatments in half of the pitch.

The team needed to be choreographed in order to perform the specific functions whenever they are called upon. Correia said they used the same system that applied for all other FIFA competitions. It proved effective at the Confederation Cup and would be used again at the Brazil tournament.

During the training session, the teams needed to master the FIFA Medical Emergency Bag, short for FMEB. FMEB was put to use in 2013 and became widely accepted in FIFA’s 209 members. It is notable that there is an automated external defibrillator (AED) in the bag. The Defibrillator was designed to treat cardiac attack, to save players who suffer heart abnormalities during or after the match. It does not only treat but also diagnose potential patients. Besides AED, a regular medical emergency kit is also included in the bag.
