As many of you may know the music venue 'Mister Smiths located in Bournemouth has been made an 18+ venue. This is due a cross between council enforcement and the fact that it has been a real problem recently to police the venue. I myself am 15 and regularly watch bands, and play drums for a band (Dislocated Youth) at Mister Smiths. This now means that I and many other under 18's cannot watch their favourite bands perform or perform in their own bands at Mister Smiths. This is limiting our musical horizons and creative possibilities for musical development and experience. I don't think its fair to let a small minority stop us from progressing musically, viewing others progress and most of all, having a great time with friends. Yesterday I went to see a band play (Howards Alias) at a venue in Southampton called 'The Nexus'. When I entered the venue I had to hand my backpack to a man at the entrance. To purchase a drink at the bar, you had to have a black marker on your hand, which you would receive when you entered the venue and showed valid I.D. I think a system similar to this would reduce the number of underage drinkers and therefore, reduce the amount of policing needed. smiths is one of the only retreats i knw that havnt been takn over by pregant chavs! save smiths.....stick it to the man... i have meet many new interesting pple there so not only is it good for musical experiences but new relationships are formed there o
