Whereas, Hurricane Katrina was one of the worst natural disaster in the history of our nation, and
Whereas, the rebuilding process is vital to the healing of those directly affected, and
Whereas, the billions of dollars that have been raised to help those affected belong to the thousands of area residents who have, and continue to suffer.
We respectfully request that
1) Residents of the Gulf Coast region be employed and paid a LIVING wage in the rebuilding of their own communities.
2) Disaster profiteers not be permitted to profit upon the backs of those whove already endured so much through no-bid contracts.
3)The Gulf Coast region be rebuilt in a manner reflective of the needs of the community, as defined by community leaders, to include; affordable housing, quality healthcare and education access and effective public transportation.
Mr. Hastert, the rebuilding of New Orleans will be a proving ground for the bumper sticker philosophy of pseudo-Christian compassionate conservatism. We call upon your leadership in Congress to ensure that our government sets a high moral watermark in the rebuilding of New Orleans by meeting the aforementioned requests.
You have the chance to show true compassion toward our brethren in the hurricane ravaged regions by empower them to enhance their own communities and their own lives. Please Denny, put people before politics in this rebuilding effort.
