As members and concerned x-members, we are deeply troubled by the actions of the current president of the San Diego Area Local 197 American Postal Workers Union AFL/CIO Ricky Cornelius. Recent events at Union meetings and on the workroom floor in full view of management have our reputation as a progressive respected local in jeopardy.
We feel these actions are in direct violation of our constitution and by-laws and the national constitution and by-laws.
1. Charges have been filled against Cornelius and he has failed to appoint a trail board to conduct hearing and to make sure these charges have been heard in a timely manner.
2. He refuses to recognize proper motions by ruling every motion your out of order even when the chair is challenged.
3. He permitted a petition to be circulated on Aug 4, 2006 where another union member wanted limited/light duty removed from their authorized positions.
4. On September 7, 2006 he had a confrontation with another elected officer on the workroom floor of the San Diego P&DC in front of many members and non-members and management.
5. He refused to permit (and still refuses to permit) an elected officer fill their position by saying that because you are not a shop steward you do not have the right to see any union or employee information.
6. He permitted a shop steward to circulate a petition on March 7, 2007 telling lies about a Union officer and their worthiness for the open position of Clerk Craft director.
7. He has REFUSED to go to presidents training even when motions were passed ordering him to attend these training sessions.
We have no confidence that Ricky Cornelius is the right person to lead a progressive and respected local Union.
