No on-line GST for Australia!

Stop the attack on shoppers by Australia's retail heavyweights. To protect their already obscene profits retail billionaires Gerry Harvey (of Harvey Norman stores) and Solomon Lew have launched a campaign with other retailers to make on line shopping more expensive for Australians. They intend lobbying the Australian government to introduce the GST (Goods and Services Tax) for all on-line purchases. Currently goods worth under $1,000 are GST free. Solomon Lew became a billionaire by importing clothes, toys and other goods made cheaply overseas and reselling them at inflated prices. In 2010 the electrical retailer Harvey Norman posted a profit of $231.41 million, up from $214.35 million in 2008/09. Mr Harvey has "positive expectations of the year ahead". His confidence extends to opening five new stores in 2011, including one in Slovenia. (SMH Business Day August 2010). Does that sound like a businessman at risk of going under because an estimated three percent of Australians shop online? Despite enormous profits these greedy businessmen want to punish Australian taxpayers for not shopping at their stores.
