No to the Monteagudo dam / No a la presa de Monteagudo

Ante la intenciуn del Ministerio de Medio Ambiente de Espaсa de ejecutar el proyecto de la PRESA DE MONTEAGUDO,

los abajo firmantes MANIFESTAMOS

Que cualquier modificaciуn que conlleve la regulaciуn del rнo Tiйtar y el tramo inferior de su afluente el Guadyerbas en la zona de Monteagudo, supondrнa una afecciуn muy profunda a uno de los espacios naturales mбs importantes del occidente europeo.

Que en la zona afectada por la presa de Monteagudo habitan especies de fauna y flora expresamente protegidas, tanto en lo referido a la continuidad de sus procesos vitales como a los hбbitats que los albergan. Estas especies, entre otras, son: Cigьeсa Negra, Бguila Imperial Ibйrica, Grulla Comъn, Cigьeсa Comъn, Elanio Azul, Milano Negro, Бguila Culebrera, Бguila-Azor Perdicera, Бguila Calzada, Buitre Negro, Milano Real, Бguila Real, y Nutria.

Que la zona objeto de ha sido propuesta por el Gobierno de Espaсa, a peticiуn de las comunidades autуnomas de Castilla y Leуn y Castilla-La Mancha para formar parte de la Red Natura 2000. La presa de Monteagudo, en cualquiera de las opciones barajadas por el Ministerio de Medio Ambiente (136, 182, у 448 Hm3) incidirнa muy negativamente en el corazуn de este espacio natural.

Que ya existen informes elaborados por cientнficos y universidades nacionales que avalan el extraordinario valor de la zona afectada, y obra en manos del propio Ministerio de Medio Ambiente un estudio de impacto ambiental del aсo 1996 que seсala los impactos ambientales que entraсan cualquier actuaciуn en el rнo Tiйtar desde su nacimiento hasta esta zona.

Y que por todo ello,

NOS OPONEMOS a la ejecuciуn de la presa de Monteagudo e instamos al Ministerio de Medio Ambiente a descartar definitivamente su ejecuciуn debido al impacto medioambiental que ocasionarнa.

Given the Spanish Ministry of Environment's intention to carry out the MONTEAGUDO DAM project,

we the undersigned STATE

That any regulation of the river Tietar and the lower reaches of its tributary the Guadyerbas in the area of Monteagudo, would deeply affect one of the most important natural areas of Western Europe.

That the area affected by the Monteagudo dam is home to species of fauna and flora which are expressly protected - both their lives and their habitats. These species include: Black Stork, Spanish Imperial Eagle, Crane, White Stork, Black-winged Kite, Black Kite, Short-toed Eagle, Bonelli's Eagle, Booted Eagle, Black Vulture, Red Kite, Golden Eagle and otter.

That the region has been proposed by the Government of Spain, at the request of the autonomous communities of Castilla y Leуn and Castilla-La Mancha to form part of the Natura 2000 Network. The Monteagudo dam, in any of the options proposed by the Ministry of Environment (134, 182 or 448 Hm3), would make an important negative impact at the very heart of this natural area.

That studies carried out by scientists and national universities confirm the extraordinary value of the affected area. Furthermore the Ministry of Environment has a environmental impact report carried out in 1996 which points out the environmental impact that would be caused by any modification of the Tietar river, from its source up to this area.

And we are therefore,

OPPOSED to the building of the Monteagudo dam and we request that the Ministry of Environment definitively discards the project given the environmental impact it would cause.
