Oppose the Troop Surge!

In spite of these clear indications of the will of the people, and in open defiance of the Democratic leadership's repeated requests (Jul '06, Sep '06, Oct '06, Jan '07) to begin the "phased redeployment" of our military forces, President Bush made sending "more than 20,000 additional American troops" the key feature of his New Way Forward in Iraq. Once again, reputable opinion polls have consistently indicated that a solid majority of Americans disapprove of his "new policy."
This week, beginning February 13th, the House of Representatives will hold a 3-day debate on a Resolution that disapproves of this "escalation of the war in Iraq," while stating "full support for the troops." Because this is a non-binding resolution, it will require a strong bipartisan showing of support if it is to have any chance of halting the ongoing troop surge. We therefore urge each of you, Democrat and Republican alike, to support this extremely important legislation.
[Note: This Resolution was still being drafted during the weekend of 10-11 February, and sources indicated that it might not be completed until the evening of the 12th. As soon as the final version is available, it will be posted here. If you are reluctant to sign this petition until you have read the official text, please check back on Tuesday, 13 February.]
