We, the Undersigned, are upset that due to your ownership of the North American production and distribution rights to Ursula K. LeGuin's "Earthsea" novels, the Studio Ghibli-produced animated motion picture "Gedo Senki," based on the third novel in the series-"The Farthest Shore"-and directed by Mr. Goro Miyazaki, will not see a NorthAm release until at least 2009, when the rights are due to expire.
Ms. LeGuin herself disagrees with this turn of events, stating in an interview with the "New York Times": Mr. Miyazaki's movie won't be shown as long as the Sci-Fi Channel people sit on their rights, which they have until '09, unless they decide to stop being a dog in the manger.
We urge you to permit Disney and Studio Ghibli to release an English-language version as soon as possible. If it requires the participation of Universal Studios or any of the other studios under your ageis for it to be done, then so be it.
