We are disappointed to hear rumours that the up and coming University of Portsmouth 2005 Graduation Ball due to be held on the 23rd July 2005 will be held in the Students Union. We feel this venue will not be suitable for a black-tie event which we have all been eagerly anticipating. We have been supporting the Union for the last three years, with our regular attendance and feel that our graduation ball should be something special which can be remembered for years to come and not just another night in the Union.
Considering the size of the Union, less people will be able to attend in relation to previous years, the Union's capacity being 1100 and with at least 4000 students graduating this year, it is guaranteed to be at maximum capacity with substantial bar queues. We are also concerned with the lack of space the Union and surrounding grounds have and are curious about how you are going to fit all the activities of previous years into the small rooms of the union. We would like our graduation ball to be of significance and meaning to us and we dont feel the Union will provide this as the venue. As our representative, we ask you to consider our wishes and reflect on any decisions you make.

I think its outrageous! we already had to que for hours and pay 1 for our nus cards to get into the crappy union, now we have to have our last precious memories there! No thank you!

I suggest that we make our own ball arrangements and throw a "real" ball for all those that are Annoyed at going to the union. I want a grad ball but not at the union!. Id be happy to help organise?. Whos with me??.
