Dear Prime Minister Trudeau,
After significant delays, and unnecessary silence about the kidnapping and torture of gays in Chechnya, Canada has finally made a statement condemning the absolute horror of what is occurring to gays in Chechnya.
Now we ask that the government of Canada do more to protect these men, and with NO further delays.
We ask for the following, at the very least.
1. That the Canadian Ambassador to the UN General Assembly contact the Russian delegation for an official response.
2. That Canada demand further investigation into what it occurring in Chechnya.
3. That the Canadian Government substantively respond to any requests for assistance from LGBT rights organizations, in particular Russia LGBT Network Contact: Igor Kochetkov
4. That Canada offers immediate asylum to any gay person in Chechnya that is at risk of being kidnapped and tortured.
Since I have seen your support of the LGBT community in Canada I know that you that your voice and actions can make a big difference.
