Proposed APA Rule Change

We, the undersigned, are all active members of the American Poolplayers Association (APA). We support a revision of the APA entry ranking rule for men and women during their very first match in the APA. We propose that men and women start off at an equal level and that future rankings are determined irrespective of gender.
Under the current APA rule, gentlemen play their first match as an SL4 and ladies play their first match as an SL3. Plus, ladies are ranked on a scale of SL2 to SL7, while gentlemen are ranked SL3 to SL7. The current system is outdated and no longer necessary to encourage women to play.
We feel that changing this rule - to start women and men off at an equal rank, and ensuring that both men and women are ranked on the same scale - would be a positive public expression in opposition to any real or perceived sexism as a result of the current ranking disparities. This change would have no negative affect on the APA since the Equalizer will determine a persons real skill level over time anyway.
We hope that by standing together on this issue that the APA will reconsider the current system, and that men and women will compete in the league on equal footing.
