Raise The Speed-Limits

As citizens of the State of Washington, we are petitioning the Department of Transportation, Congress, the Governor and all others who are involved to systematically raise speed limits across the state.

We believe that harm or damage should be the focus of penalty and not speed itself. We also assert that low speed-limits do not and have not adequately proven that they are a single point of reducing accidents or fatalities. We also declare that in such cases where accidents or fatalities are present, lowering the speed limit for all drivers should not be the first resort. Other measures of improving driver responsibility, attention, and care should be considered as alternatives.

Some benefits may include:
-Increase fuel cruising efficiency for many types of vehicles
-Reduced congestion in many areas as traffic through-put will increase
-High-volume arteries will handle greater traffic and consequently lead to a reduction of cross-through traffic in residential areas
-Reduction in burning idle-fuel
-Cleaner air and reduced-pollution
-Improve commuting time
-Reduce road rage
-Improved relationship with law-enforcement officials
-Reduction of stress
-Increased time spent with families
-Increased time for starting businesses
-Increase in commerce
-Improved prices of goods and services
-More reliable delivery times for delivery companies
-Greater attention on the road
-Reduction of unsafe miscellaneous time-filling activities
-Greater community involvement and participation in local events
-Greater tourism abilities
-Greater tax revenue in gas-taxes and issued permits
-Fewer congestion related accidents
