1) Open Trackback threads are little different from Blog Carnivals or a blogger posting, "Look, I found this interesting link at Adam's Blog" and . As such, Open Trackback hosts and posters are being unfairly targeted.
2) Open Trackback fests do serve a legitimate purpose in increasing traffic of both linkers and hosts. The links do not constitute spam, as all trackbacks and links are made by consenting parties.
3) In removing the possibility of Open Trackback threads counting towards ecosystem ranking, TTLB is merely fighting technology. There are many ways other than having a hundred thousand hits a day to get the type of links that will count in TTLB's ecosystem such as joining large Blog Rolls, hosting Carnivals, etc. One could have people link to you on one of their posts and e-mail you to let you know about. We have shown our ability to bring mainstream Media outlets to their knees with our collective intelligence. We submit that TTLB can't outwit us and we'll find a way to get high in the rankings if we put our minds to it. He can't stop the power of the Pajamahadeen.
4) We would also remind TTLB that on his FAQ page, he has said, "this all (the ecosystem) shouldn't be taken too terribly seriously." We would remind him of this in his deliberation on the open trackback thread. The fact is that Bloggers feed "The Truth Laid Bear" not the other way around. We've linked him on our webpages, we've given him traffic and hits. Most of us have received very few hits directly from TTLB. In fact, we ask, what is the difference between TTLB and Open Trackback providers?
Is it fair to say that putting a link to a blogger's work in exchange for a link to your work is "spam." but it would be okay if we got people to put a link to us on their site saying:
Bob's Blog
is a
A Galloping Stallion
In Adam's Stable
We would further remind TTLB, that there is life beyond the ecosystem where but 45,000 blogs are linked (compared to nearly 800,000 in Technorati). We do humbly remind him that bloggers have made TTLB a success and implore him to reconsider this unjust decision.
