Rename Community Court Highfields

The Highfields RSL has had a proposal before the Toowoomba Regional Council for a number of years to rename Community Court Highfields to SEAN McCARTHY WAY in memory of Signaller Sean Patrick McCarthy who was the 8th Australian Soldier to be Killed in Action in the Afghanistan War.
Sean was an ex member of 7th Signal Regiment (EW) at Cabarlah a short distance from Highfields and he also owned a home in the local community. Sean's parents David and Mary are members of the Highfields RSL Sub Branch, and David proudly marches wearing his son's medals on Anzac day with other members of the sub branch.
To date the Toowoomba Regional Council have not approved the renaming of the road and have not given any reason why to the sub branch, except to say it is considering it. The sub branch is determined to honor Sean by having the road renamed in his honor. Community court was chosen because it has no residential homes on it and it also leads to the Highfields Community Memorial where Anzac day and remembrance day services are held.
