Memorial Day is a solemn occasion for our nation to pause and remember our military heroes who've given the ultimate sacrifice. It is from their efforts throughout our history that we are able to enjoy the freedoms we live every day.
In recent years, Memorial Day has become marginalized by commercialization. White Sales, car dealerships, and many other products are hawked for Memorial Day.
Further, it has become common to wish "Happy" Memorial Day. A country honoring her war dead can hardly be expected to be happy about it, yet the minimizing of Memorial Day has resulted in such trite greetings.
Therefore, we ask that Dignity and Respect be returned to Memorial Day. We will not shop at merchants offering "Memorial Day" sales. We ask that "Happy Memorial Day" be withdrawn from use.
Memorial Day is for those who've given their all; while we are enjoying the beginning of summer, we can still honor them... respectfully.
