Revision of New Mobile Phone and iPod Policy at CVC

To whom it may concern,

As the student body of Canning Vale College, we disagree with the current actions to deny us access to our technology, namely iPods and mobile phones. We understand that there are some situations that justify such a banning, but currently these have been contained to a minority of irresponsible students, and does not constitute the need for a blanket ban on the products in question.

This new policy on mobile phones and iPods is unfair and undeserved - the use of mobile phones should be by emergencies only, because sometimes the office staff will not be present or an emergency may arise where action may need to be immediate, and iPods should be the responsibility of the current teaching class as to their usage.

We agreed with the previous system and would appreciate a return to a system that worked aggreably for all parties. We who have signed this petition agree, with complete honesty and fairness, that:

1. The new policies that specifically target the use of mobile phones and iPods on the school grounds is unwarranted, undeserved and undermining the privelages we have as a student.

2. The previous system, of which there were little to no flaws with to begin with, is satisfactory for the school and will keep all parties involved content, and thus request that the new policy be revoked in favour of this older policy.

3. If the previous system is understandably flawed, we would understand that and assist to create a system that satisfies the students, the teachers and staff.

4. The use of iPods and mobile phones would lead to a better school environment for students, teachers and staff of Canning Vale College.

The signatures on this petition declare the support against the new policies banning mobile phones and iPods and request a revision of such an action with more consultation to those targeted - the student body. We would appreciate such an action as soon as viably possible.
