توقف فاجعه زیست محیطی: تراژدی دریاچه ارومیه
پارک ملی ارومیه، ذخیره گاه بیوسفر یونسکو (برنامه انسان و کره مسکونی) دریاچه ارومیه را نجات دهیم


ما از تمام سازمان ها و کنشگران زیست محیطی، سیاسی و مدافع حقوق بشر درخواست داریم تا با حمایت از فعالان و کنشگران زیست محیطی در داخل ایران از فاجعه خشک شدن دریاچه ارومیه که منجر به نابودی پارک ملی دریاچه ارومیه و جزایر آن، جانوارن، پرندگان، اراضی، مزارع، کشتزارها، باغات، ساختمان ها و نواحی مسکونی و مناطق همجوار می شود، در چارچوب یک برنامه منسجم بسیج شده، از این فاجعه تراژیک زیست محیطی جلوگیری کنیم.
دریاچه ارومیه دومین دریاچه شور جهان پس از بحرالمیت، بزرگترین دریاچه داخلی ایران با وسعت 5 هزار و 700 کیلومتر مربع در آذربایجان در شمال غربی ایران واقع شده است. این دریاچه به همراه 102 جزیره کوچک و بزرگ سال 1352 خورشیدی معادل 1974 میلادی به لحاظ ویژگی های منحصر بفرد اکولوژیکی به عنوان منطقه حفاظت شده در مصوبه شماره 63 شورای عالی حفاظت محیط زیست کشور به پارک ملی ارتقاء یافت. همچنین دریاچه ارومیه به عنوان ذخیره گاه بیوسفر در برنامه " انسان و کره مسکونی (MAB) " ثبت شده و در سال 1354 معادل 1976 میلادی به علت دارا بودن معیارهای جهانی کنوانسیون حفاظت از تالاب ها در لیست تالاب های کنوانسیون رامسر قرار گرفته است. این دریاچه از سوی موسسه بین المللی تالاب ها به عنوان یکی از مهم ترین مناطق مهم پرندگان انتخاب شده است ولی هم اکنون به دلیل مشکلات زیست محیطی در لیست تالاب های در معرض تغییرات شدید اکولوژیکی قرار دارد.
در طی پانزده سال گذشته، با توجه به هشدارهای کارشناسان محیط زیستی در ارتباط با پروژه های بی رویه سدسازی و تاثیرات منفی و مخرب آن بر اقلیم مناطق مختلف کشور تنها به علت بی توجهی، بی درایتی و عدم مدیریت صحیح حکومت ایران، شاهد گسترش خشکی، تخریب محیط زیست و نمونه بارز آن نابودی پارک ملی دریاچه ارومیه هستیم.
سدسازی های بی رویه و بدون کارشناسی مطالعاتی زیست محیطی بر رودهایی همچون میاندوآب، زرینه رود و سیمینه رود، مهاباد و شهرچای ارومیه و ... که حوزه آبریز دریاچه ارومیه هستند، تمام مسیل های این دریاچه را که منابع تغذیه کننده آن هستند را بسته و علت اصلی پیشروی خشکی دریاچه می باشند. علاوه بر این سهم برداشت از آب های زیرزمینی و توسعه کشاورزی در بالادست حوضه دریاچه ارومیه به میزان چشمگیری بر گسترش خشکی این دریاچه موثر بوده است. در چنین شرایط محیط زیستی به خاطر کم آبی، غلظت نمک آب بالا رفته و بدین سان بسیاری از زیست گاه ها در این دریاچه تخریب شده است.
خشک شدن و نابودی دریاچه و تبدیل پارک ملی دریاچه به دومین کویر نمک کشور با وسعت 5 هزار و هفتصد کیلومتر به عبارتی 5 میلیارد تن نمک فاجعه های متعددی را در ابعادی غیر قابل جبران برای محیط زیست بدنبال خواهد داشت:
- تولید بادهای نمکی و با توجه به غربی و شرقی بودن بادهای ایران، باغات و کشتزارهای مناطق همجوار رو به خشکی و نابودی می روند،
- مرگ پرندگان در قندیل های نمکی،
- نابودی پوشش گياهی جزاير
- مهاجرت جانوارن منطقه،
- نابودی قطب کشاورزی مناطق همجوار،
- نابودی زادآوری آرتمیا به ارزش یک میلیون دلار
- افزایش بیکاری
- بلا موضوع شدن سدهای احداث شده

با وجود هشدارهای کارشناسان محیط زسیت در طی پانزده سال گذشته بعلت عدم تدبیر لازم دولت و مجلس در روند توسعه و پیشروی خشکی دریاچه ارومیه در بحران خشکسالی، فعالان و کنشگران محیط زیستی برای نجات این دریاچه و در نهایت نجات زیستگاه این منطقه را به تکاپو واداشته است. متاسفانه این اعتراضات مسالمت آمیز زیست محیطی به یک ماجرای امنیتی تبدیل می شود و بیش از 30 نفر از فعالان زیست محیطی دستگیر و به جای نا معلومی انتقال داده می شوند. همچنین به اعتراضات شهروندان برای توقف طرح های سدبندهای متعدد رودخانه ها و حوزه های آبریز دریاچه ارومیه از سوی نیروهای امنیتی برخورد شدید می شود. فریاد بیش از ده هزار شهروند ارومیه ایی: دریاچه ارومیه جان می‌دهد، مجلس فرمان قتل آن را صادر می‌کند، بیایید برویم با گریه‌های خود دریاچه ارومیه را پرآب کنیم با خشونت نیروهای امنیتی مواجه شده و حدود ۳۰۰ نفر در ارومیه بازداشت می شوند .
در همین راستا به درخواست تنی چند از شهروندان و کارشناسان داخل کشور با توجه به امکانات ما از جمله داشتن آزادی بیان، از کلیه نهادها و سازمان های زیست محیطی، سیاسی و مدافع حقوق بشر درخواست داریم، با حمایت از شهروندان، فعالان و کنشگران محیط زیست در ایران برای نجات دریاچه ارومیه از مرگ و نابودی بسیج شده تا با هم بتوانیم اهرمی کمکی برای بهبود اکوسيستم این منطقه و مناطق همجوار باشیم.

STOP Environmental Disaster: Lake Orumiehs Tragedy
Save National Park, Save Lake Urmieh Unesco Mab Biosphere Reserve


We, the undersigned, demand all environmental, political and human rights defender organizations and protesters, to support environmental activists inside Iran. The environmental activists in the country are currently facing a crucial challenge against the government and official entities to prevent the complete destruction of the invaluable Lake of Urmia and its ecosystem, including its National Park, islands, animals, birds, farms, fields, gardens, buildings, villages and residential areas.
The Salt Lake of Urmia, the second largest salt water lake in the world after the Dead Sea, and the largest lake inside Iran with an area of 5.700 square kilometers, is located in the northwestern Iranian Azerbaijan.
In 1974, the Lake of Urmia with its 102 other large and small islands, had been acknowledged as protected area in Act Number 63 of the Environmental Protection Council of Iran. Two years later in 1976, it was registered as an important biosphere reserve under the Man and the Biosphere (MAB) program of UNESCO. Unfortunately during the past 15 years due to the negligence, mismanagement and irresponsibility of the Iranian government in controlling natural resources and despite of many warnings from environmental experts on the destructive effects of excessive and unjustifiable construction of dam projects, we are witnessing the shrinkage and degradation of many ecosystems especially the irreplaceable Salt Lake of Urmia and its National Park.
Numerous other dams have been constructed on the rivers that used to be the main resource of fresh water for the Lake of Urmia. These dams block the water supply of the Lake and are the leading causes of the shrinkage and dryness of the lake. Moreover, the agricultural development in the water table upstream, on the shore of the lake has been dramatically contributing to this process. In such environmental conditions and due to dehydration and high concentration of salt many habitats in the lake have been perished.
The destruction of the lake is transforming the area into the 2nd Largest Salt Desert of Iran with an area of 5.700 square kilometers, i.e. equivalent to 5 billion tons of salt. This catastrophic transform cause inevitable disasters in future like:

- Arousal of salty winds and hence, destruction of orchards and plantations due to prevailing east-west directionality of the winds in the area.
- Genocide of all living creatures (birds, Artemia, etc.)
- Destruction of areas adjacent to the land.
- Deterioration of vegetation,
- Migration of the animals,
- Destruction of agricultural pole areas
- Economical damages and unemployment
- Unserviceability of the constructed dames

Due to the lack of tactfulness and irresponsibility from the government in this crisis and in spite of numerous warnings during the last 15 years, the researchers and environmental activists are finally taking peaceful actions and demonstrations to save the lake and ultimately save the ecosystem of the area.
Unfortunately the government has taken these peaceful environmental protests as a matter of national security, arrested about 30 of environmental activists and has transferred them to undisclosed places. Three civilians were killed in the protests of 31st of August 2011 and more than hundred arrested and detained. The peacefully voiced message of more than 10.000 Urmia civilians claiming slogans such as Urmia Lake is dying and the Government has ordered to kill it and Lets cry to fill up the Urmia Lake with our tears has been confronted with absolute violence by the Security Forces.
In this dreadful situation, considering our possibilities of freedom of expression outside Iran, a few experts within the country have requested and invited all environmental institutions, organizations and ecology actors to support and take necessary actions for attracting the attention and support of the International Community. Saving the Lake of Urmia and its ecosystem and helping release of all the innocent environmental activists has been called as an instant target.
