Save Our Mall

To date the people of Christchurch have only been consulted on general plans for the inner-city redevelopment and havent had the opportunity to have our views heard of the specific issue of amending the malls pedestrian status and creating three new roads.
We believe building roads is short sighted. Roads, cars and the pollution they cause are the way of the past, not our sustainable future. We should be extending pedestrian areas, not reducing them.
We are also concerned for keeping our children safe. The proposal to build three new roads cuts our unique inner-city school in half and will be a major safety concern for our students and young people.
We are aware that the current Mayor as well as current Councillors Barry Corbett, David Cox, Carole Evans, Bob Parker, Bob Shearing and Gail Sheriff all supported the move to build three new roads through City Mall.
We would like it to be known that we intend to vote for candidates in the upcoming local body elections who want to save our mall.
We urge the Christchurch City Council to keep City Mall as a pedestrian area and oppose constructing three roads through our citys heart.
