Silver Moon Café of 60 Upper George's Street, Dun Laoghaire is set to close by the end of July.
This wonderful little red painted cafe is a cornerstone of the village, helping to keep Dun Laoghaire alive through its battle of resurgence through the recent recession.
The community atmosphere is visibly alive in this amazing café from the moment you walk through the narrow red door, straight past the amazing smell of freshly ground coffee and delicious array of homemade soups, salads, sandwiches, desserts, smoothies and more.
Patricia & Clair (owners and daily employees) treat their café as if it were their home, they chat to their "customers" like family members coming into the kitchen to grab a cup of tea. The relaxed atmosphere is what makes this spot one of the hardest places to get a seat at lunchtime, people would rather share a table (maybe even a chair!) to enjoy the food and not leave empty handed - but there is always a take away option.
If you are one of the daily or weekly customers (of which they are plenty) you are welcomed by name, told to take a seat like we tell a neighbour when we make a fuss of their visit and tell them we will be with them shortly.
The service is consistent, well timed and carried out with the highest level of care and passion by every staff member, a reflection of the ethos that Patricia and Clair have instilled in this establishment. Equally as important, the creativity and passion that goes into the food, freshly prepared daily, for the community it serves goes above and beyond expectations.
Locals from near and far of Dun Laoghaire and wider Dublin visit this spot time and time again as if it were a club and everyone wants to be a member.
