Save the Begonia Park Lookout Point !

The Begonia Lookout Point at the ocean facing corner of Begonia Ave and Pacific Dr has been in existence for over 100 years, providing locals and visitors gorgeous views of the ocean, harbor and wedge. Building on this site will not only obliterate the Lookout point, it will block at least 40\% of the ocean view from the benches at Begonia Park. This is a public view and has always been!
The NB Planning Commission has approved plans to build on this site, despite objections from hundreds of local residents that it should remain part of Begonia Park. The city must uphold regulations in the General Plan it passed in 2006 stating that public views and ocean view corridors must be protected.
The decision has been appealed and it is up to City Council, the owners, and local residents to work together to preserve the lookout point for public use ! This land has always been part of the park, and has until very recently had a park bench and stairs to the park. Construction on this lot violates the General Plan, and lowers the quality of life for the entire surrounding community.
Newport Beach City Council must advocate for the quality of life of hundreds of its constituents and do ALL THAT IT CAN to acquire the Begonia Lookout Point for public use, so that it can remain as part of the park and so that park views of the Ocean will be protected. Local Residents are willing to work with City Council to Make this Happen!
