Save the UCLA CAPPP Program

We, the undersigned, urge Scott Waugh, Executive Vice Chancellor of the University of California - Los Angeles, to preserve the autonomy of the UCLA Center for American Politics and Public Policy (CAPPP) Program from forces of consolidation that will destroy our programs reputation for academic success.

As alumni of the UCLA CAPPP Program, we strongly believe that the educational integrity should be protected from any attempts at consolidation. The academic rigor of the research seminar and the individualized attention given by Professor Desveaux attracts the brightest students from all fields of study. This allows for a level of competition gives each student a sense of pride and accomplishment even before they arrive at the UC Washington Center. In a large institution like UCLA, it would be criminal to eliminate some students only opportunity to have the educational experience of individualized attention from a talent faculty member on a research project of their choice.

As the author of the petition and a member of the Fall 2009 CAPPP class, I personally cant imagine my time at UCLA without the CAPPP program. The research paper I wrote while in Washington DC is one of my proudest academic accomplishments.

Please keep our thoughts in mind as you struggle with this decision.
