In May of 2009, General Motors issued a wind-down letter to Ricky Smith Buick Pontiac GMC in Weymouth. This letter stated that GM will not renew the dealerships franchise agreement in October of 2010. Ricky Smith appealed this unexpected decision through the correct channels, providing pages and pages of evidence showing its relevance and historical success as a GM dealership. This evidence includes General Motors, just last year, soliciting and assisting Ricky Smith in purchasing the Buick franchise from South Shore Buick. This indicates that not only was GM satisfied by the sales and customer satisfaction performance of the dealership, but also that GM considered Ricky Smith a relevant and important member of its dealer network.
State franchise laws prohibit arbitrary actions against franchisees. These laws, however, are trumped by bankruptcy law, and GM has used this to carry out its questionable agenda.
Ricky Smiths termination will cause great hardship for its employees and for thousands of customers who buy from and get service at the Weymouth facility. Many of Ricky Smiths customers will now be forced to travel inconvenient distances, and to deal with people they neither know nor trust. Ricky Smith Buick Pontiac GMC, its employees, customers, and friends seek your help in restoring its ability to remain a GM dealer, keeping its 50 year tradition alive.

It would be a travesty to loose such a landmark such as Rickey Smith. They have been a pillar of this community servicing and accommodating the people of this area for over 50 years.
