Stop Microsoft's Patent on Emoticons

Microsoft did not invent emoticons; Emoticons have been around years before Microsoft. Who did create the emoticon on the internet? Kevin Mackenzie is said to be the one who created the first graphical emoticon in 1979 but there is no visual or legal proof of this. We all know it wasn't Microsoft who created the graphic emoticon, so why are they granted the patent for the emoticon? They shouldn't, but they did get the patent. This is not fair to any internet users and many websites make money off of emoticons. Websites that could be making money just to survive in the world. Give up the patent, please!
