If like me you are agast at the governments plans to go ahead with the planned fuel tax increase in August 2012 then this is the petition for you.
I live in a rural location, public transport is does not exsist where I live, and like many others, I depend on my car to get to and from work.
I work shifts in the public sector and even if I did live somewhere with access to public transport - it would not meet the requirements I have for transport. There is no school bus service so I have to drive my children to school and the major supermarkets do not offer home delivery to my address, so I need to drive to the nearest city for shopping at least once a week.
I have just calculated how much of my monthly salary goes towards paying for fuel alone and was shocked to realise it was 73% so every monthly paypacket, I am losing 73% (at least) to paying for petrol.
Now if I drove a big fancy car then fair enough but I don't. I drive an economical 1.2 engine Vauxhall Corsa, which is not ideal for a family of 4, but it is all I can afford. It is now at the stage I cannot afford to work but I must. I have worked all my days and payed tax. Yet I am getting no help at all.
I constantly live with the feear of redundancy, I've not had a pay rise for 3 years, and am not expected to get one for at least another 3 years. Yet the cost of living is increasing dramatically. food is so much moree expensive and I can't afford to fill my car up to buy it.
The government really needs to take a long hard look at the general public and their requirements. David Cameron is stating day in and day out how he wants this country to recover. How does he propose to do this when people can no longer afford to work or purchase goods. If this keeps going on we will end up back in a recession and not come out of it for a long time.
I am not a political person, I am a hard working mother of 2 who is struggling financially to make ends meet, the rise in fuel tax will be the final nail in the coffin for myself and many others. I beg you to take the time and sign this petition and get others to sign so we can, hopefully, before it is too late, persuade George Osborne and David Cameron to alter this tragic and destructive path they have set out and allow the economy a chance to recover.
Thank you.
