Here is a portion of the letter that was sent to us fans:
"It is important to note that the existing Meadowlands Stadium has 80,000 total seats comprised of 76,000 general admission seats, 142 club seats and 120 suites; the new stadium will have 82,000 total seats, comprised of 67,750 general admission seats, 9,250 club seats and over 200 suites. This means that while every season ticket holder will have the ability to purchase seats in the new stadium, certain general admission seat locations at the current stadium will be club seats at the new stadium, primarily along the sidelines on the mezzanine level and on the east side of the lower bowl at the 50 yard line.
If your current seats are along the sidelines of the mezzanine or lower bowl, you likely are among our longest-tenured season ticket accounts, and your priority number should provide you an opportunity to purchase similarly located club seats or, if you elect not to purchase club seats, to purchase general admission seats at a later date in a different location.
The Jets have taken on a substantial amount of debt to finance the construction of the new $1.3 billion stadium. Like other teams that have built stadiums in the recent past, the Jets are required by the NFL to pay back this construction debt quickly.
The Jets are surveying different types and terms of Personal Seat Licenses (PSLs) as one of the ways to help achieve this requirement. A PSL is an asset, like a taxi medallion, that is purchased in addition to the ticket that gives the holder ownership of their seat. This holder can then sell the seat license in the future, including for any profit, to someone else if the holder no longer wishes to purchase season tickets.
PSLs have been sold in virtually every new NFL stadium built in the past 15 years as a way of paying for construction costs. For example, the Dallas Cowboys have announced a PSL program with prices ranging $2,000 to $12,000 for general admission seats and from $16,000 to $150,000 for club seats."
We are being compared/modeled financially after the Dallas Cowboys.
The New York Jets have not fielded a competitive team since the 1968-1969 team that won the Super Bowl. We have 1 Super Bowl win and 2 Division champion wins since joining the NFL. The Dallas Cowboys have 5 Super Bowl wins, 16 NFL/NFC Championships, and 20 Division Championships. In other words, we are not the cowboys, the fans may have paid out of the, you-know-what, but every single year they are competitive. Every single year they make strides to be better. Every single year you know the product that is going out on the field.
I can complain all day and bring up various points about how ridiculous this new fee system is, but the majority of people are taking it to the message boards and writing some very interesting and poignant views.
Please visit message boards, please visit the New York Jets and New York Giants websites; together we can make a difference. The fees are wrong, we will not stand for it, even if this falls on deaf ears, we will know that we are not alone.
