STOP URARB rate increases for NS Power

Several Nova Scotia pulp & paper mills have approached the Nova Scotia Utility & Review Board requesting a reduction in their power rates to allow their companies to become more attractive to potential purchasers. Henceforth, residents of Nova Scotia will be responsible for the lost revenue. Therefore, not only will we be receiving a 3% increase (which has already been approved by the Board for 2012) but we will be receiving an approximate $9.00/month increase per household shouldering lost wages that the Emera Corporation will be losing if the Board approves the rate reductions for the mills. If big business can not afford the power increases, what does that say to NSP? Perhaps that means that our rates for electricity are already TOO HIGH!!! We need to put a STOP to the Utility & Review Board permitting Emera's shareholders making record-high profits off an essential service. NSP is a monopoly & should have never been privatized, but since the Nova Scotia government won't put an end to this "price gouging" we need to take a STAND. Please sign this petition showing your disapproval. Your signature will show that you are AGAINST yet ANOTHER increase from Nova Scotia Power.
