Support Public Transportation in Wisconsin

Dear Governor-Elect Walker,

As residents of Wisconsin and constituents we take this opportunity to express our support for the expansion of public transportation in Wisconsin rather than wider roads and more bridges. As Governor you must do your best to represent all of us, not just partisan interests. We support developing an effective and comprehensive rail plan for the state that allows for significantly expanding both inter and intra state travel. The economic future of the Midwest and the quality of life in Wisconsin both require an intentional investment in public transportation. These should be new dollars, thus building on the bus and rail systems that serve the state already. Our childrens future demands that we organize our lives in significantly different ways, and central to the goals of full-employment, environmentally sustainable development, and global economic leadership is the establishment of adequate infrastructure such as public transportation. In the coming decades the core of effective public transportation and cost-effective transport of products will be the re-development of the railroad system. We need only to look to Britain, Germany, and countless other economically competitive countries to see where we need to be ourselves. Lets take this opportunity to get Federal assistance and lets work closely with the forward-looking Talgo Corporation. Investing wisely in trains and other public transportation is a good use of public funds because it broadens the job opportunities within an hours commute. We already have sources for road repair funds, what we lack is investment in public transportation. We ask that your administration embrace the existing projects and imagine even more.
