PEDESTRIAN CROSSINGS FOR HIGHGATE SCHOOL & COMMUNITY
We urgently need safe crossings on Hampstead Lane in the vicinity of Highgate Junior School's entrances. We are asking for crossings near both ends of the Bishopswood Road crescent.
Hundreds of children from the Highgate School community cross Hampstead Lane each day. They need a safe place to cross, as do residents and visitors to Hampstead Heath.
The current situation is unacceptable. There is a 1km stretch on Hampstead Lane with no crossing point, and vehicles travel at high speed. There are no crossings to get to the bus stops on both sides of the road and children often need to venture out from behind standing buses. It is even more dangerous in the dark winter months.
We want to create an environment which enables all pedestrians to cross safely, and which encourages even more children to walk or cycle to school.
