Topeka - Public Nudity

We, the undersigned, ask the commissioners of the City of Topeka, Kansas to
reject a proposed ordinance that would outlaw public nudity. While we may
not wish to see people walking naked down the streets of Topeka, we are
unaware this has been a problem in the past.

This ordinance was proposed as a result of the so-called "naked plays"
produced by the Lake Edun Foundation. Yet, it will do nothing to prevent
them from staging another similar show next year. However, be are concerned
that the ordinance will be used to criminalize families who wish to
skinny-dip in their own pool, or mothers who breast-feed their infants, or
parents of young children who might "escape" and go running out the front
door naked. As written, the ordinance would even criminalize our "plumbers
crack".

At a time when Topeka suffers from national ridicule for being boring, we do
not believe our city council should spend their time solving a problem
which, up until now, didnt exist.
