UP Residents against High-Density Housing Zoning

Issue being addressed:
The Board of Supervisors of Upper Providence Township is considering a change to the IO-3 Zoning provisions to allow for high-density housing construction. This change would allow, specifically, the developer of the property on Mennonite Road between Rts 113 and 29 (across from Arcola Rd; Wyeth) in Collegeville, PA to alter the originally approved plan from a Lifestyle Shopping Center to also include 190 apartments, 230 villas for sale and 39 courtyard homes. That is a total of 459 housing units on only 43 acres of land. This equates to 11 housing units per acre, hence the term High-Density housing.
This proposed change would tax an already over-burdened infrastructure in our community. The road system (specifically Rts 29 and Rt 422) over the last decade has had to absorb excessive growth in housing and commerce and is straining under the volume. Additionally, our school system is at capacity, again, even after adding new elementary schools and redeveloping existing schools for additional volume.
In summary, this proposed zoning change would unnecessarily stress our roads, schools and community.
Request:
By adding your name to this petition, you are demanding that the Upper Providence Township dismiss the requested change to the IO-3 zoning and reject the developers request to add high-density housing on the development off of Mennonite Rd between Rts 113 and 29 across from Arcola Rd (Wyeth).
Thanks for your support.
