A Petition to Amend the New York State Civil Service Law to recognize the veteran status of any US military veteran with an honorable or general discharge without regard to residency status for the purpose of awarding additional points on the New York State Civil Service Exams.

Background:
Current New York State Civil Service law requires that a veteran must be a New York resident in order to claim extra credit on civil service exams. Non residents are not considered veterans regardless of how long they served in the Armed Forces of the United States or the character of their discharges. This renders the service of those who are not New York residents null in the eyes of the New York State Civil Service System.
