Bruce was a well know and loved man in Chard, he had lived here for 64 years, he was born in the house that he lived in with his parents and lived there all his life until last friday, He had many friends in the community ranging from all ages and was well know for having a rest on the benches up town in between pubs and shopping and would often have a sleep on one of them with passers by often checking to see if he was ok, he always used to say "I know im three parts pissed and I go on a bit, but I am ok ".........On his sad and sudden passing on 26/11/2010 we would all like to pay our respect by putting a plaque on the bench in the town but have been told that we have to pay £300 for the rights to the bench and to maintain it afterwards, paying for any costs that arrise with repairs, and repainting etc.... I think somebody well known in the community such as Bruce, a tiny plaque is not asking much is it? but why should we pay for the bench that has been there for years for public use, he spent many hours on that bench so surely we should be able to place a plaque there for nothing.
