A.R.T's Fruitville for Everyone Petition

With this petition, we the undersigned demand that the Sarasota City Commission initiate a redesign of the Pedestrian Sleeve Project so that Fruitville Road will safely serve all users (drivers, pedestrians, AND cyclists). The current design, with construction to begin in summer 2008, calls for the narrowing of Fruitville Road, sidewalk enhancements, and the removal of the existing bike lanes from US 41 to US 301. Removing the bike lanes would make biking on Fruitville much more dangerous, forcing cyclists to either ride on the sidewalk (where crashes are actually more common), or to share narrow travel lanes with heavy auto traffic (disturbing automobile flow).
