A Tribute For Dale Earnhardt

Dear Mr. Helton,
On Sunday February 18th, 2001 we lost a person that can only be described as the most influential driver of our time. Dale Earnhardt was more than just a race car driver. He was an idol, a hero, a legend, a friend, a mentor, a father, a husband, a son, and so many other things to so many.
Our respect and admiration for Dale Earnhardt runs to the core of many of our beings. His loss will never be understood, nor will it ever be forgotten.
We wish to honor the man that gave so much to us in the best possible way. The undersigned beleive we have a fitting tribute for this man. We, the undersigned, wish you to consider the following tribute;
The pace car at every single race from this day forward will bear the #3 prominently on the side of the vehicle at every track. This is consimate to retiring Dale Earnhardt's number without ever removing it from the track. Most of us can not bare the thought of the #3 not being on the track in some form, but at the same time beleive having another driver in the vehicle will be troubling.
Finally, it would be a fitting tribute that his number would lead the race cars down to every green flag.
Please consider our request.

I aggree with #1 on the list Maybe all nascar drivers, whitch died enjoying there sport should be remembered with there car numbers or names on the pace car.

Our dream was to see him in a Daytona 500, when we retire in 3-4 yrs. like a lot of dreams (after 50) we now have to let go of this one also.......We feel so bad, my husband met him when he was at General Motors in Canada........Our Condolences to the Ear

I think that Dale's number should be retired but I do like the idea if it going on the pace car before every race. Dale will be missed by all and he is truly a Nascar LEGEND.

Racing will never be the same to so many of us. Dale Earnhardt was the best Nascar driver ever. I feel if he had to choose how he would die, this would be it, doing what he loved best, racing. I will truly miss my hero.
