Abolish The Curfew

The goal of this petition is to persuade the mgccc administration to abolish the 1:00 am curfew in the residence halls. We the students feel strongly that this curfew is unnecessary and hinders our college experience here at Perk. We already have an 11:00 pm curfew that requires us not to loiter on campus, which is perfectly reasonable, but why should we be restricted from actually ENTERING our buildings at any point of the day or night? There is always either a Residence Assistant, receptionist, or dorm mother working the front desk to prevent students from sneaking in males/females or any building code violations, so what’s the problem? Also, if the curfew were abolished it would give campus police and dorm moms one less thing to worry about. Our police force and dorm mothers have better things to do than trying to catch a bunch of students coming back from waffle house or hanging out at a friend’s room in a separate building. What about those students who have jobs and do not get off until after 1? Is it really necessary for them to have to call campus police each night and explain their situation to them just so they can get into their beds and go to sleep? Let’s face it; there are lots of students here that stay up late, whether it be grabbing a late bite to eat, studying for a test, or just hanging in a friend’s room who lives in a separate hall. If we just had this one correction, our experience here at perk would be that much more memorable and special. The relationship between hall and campus enforcers would be that much better and overall, everybody would be that much happier.
