This is a formal appeal requesting that Ashleigh Ortiz be permitted to finish out her junior year as a pupil at Glendale High School. Despite her late arrival to Glendale, midway through her freshman year, her presence at our school has not gone unnoticed. She has been active in Acapella and drama for two years, and has held leader ship positions in both Drama Club and The Black Student Association. She is just as essential a part of this school as is any other student, and her removal seems almost imprudent. Her relocation is based solely upon her academic blemishes. Ironically the removal itself is supposed to give her a better chance at succeeding academically; when, in fact, her removal can only make things more difficult for her. Removing a student from an environment which they find familiar and comforting, and placing them in a new environment in which they must begin from scratch would be detrimental to their education. The same can be said of Ms. Ortiz, who though faced with adversity has continued to strive for success and fulfillment at GHS, her home.
