Ban TRIMETHYLXANTHINE

Trimethylxanthine ("1,3,7-trimethyl- 1H-purine- 2,6(3H,7H)-dione" and "tri-meth") is a psychoactive stimulant drug that is very addictive. It is found in the leaves and seeds of various plants such as Jasminum and Theobroma , where it acts as a natural pesticide that paralyses and KILLS an insect if it chooses to feed on it. In its purest form, the chemical is a bitter, white crystalline xanthine alkaloid, that resembles cocaine.

It has been LEGALLY available in many countries for such a long time, that its use has now become widespread. It can be found in "head shop" products and may even be extracted from items available in ordinary supermarkets.

Consumption in large amounts, and especially over extended periods of time, will lead to dependency and cause very unpleasant mental and physical health problems, including nervousness, irritability, anxiety, trembling, muscle twitching (hyperreflexia), insomnia, headaches, respiratory alkalosis, and heart palpitations.

We the undersigned urge the Irish Government to ban trimethylxanthine in all forms under the Misuse of Drugs act and PROTECT OUR CHILDREN.
