We regret to, hereby, express our disappointment and outrage for the unprofessional and unethical act, committed by BBC, of deleting the word Persian from the US Presidents State of the Union Speech on Tuesday, 28 January 2008:

On the strength of a virtually countless number of undeniable documents and maps, from more than five thousand years ago to the present time, as well as the documents from the United Nations since its inauguration and during the recent decade, the inseparable name Persian Gulf has continuously and uninterruptedly been used for the Persian Gulf. It merits a mention that, inter alia, even the British Admiralty has officially used the same correct name in its official documents (as an example see the British official map at the links below*). Should you not respect the international law, show respect for your own countrys official organs and documentations, AT LEAST!
Although such irresponsible move as the alteration of someones official speech which was directly heard by hundreds of millions of people around the world does NOT derogate from the rights of Iran and the other coastal states of the Persian Gulf concerning their customary international law entitlement to the concept of historical waters, we should reiterate that it DOES mitigate the credibility of your news agency.
As for your unjustified policy in distorting the facts about the Persian Gulf via clipping the name, you want to know that even other Persian Gulf states are gradually getting to understand that the insistence on the use of this historical name is NOT because of a chauvinistic zeal of the Iranian; rather, it is an assertion and reiteration of the rights of ALL the coastal states of the Persian Gulf concerning the international legal concept of historical gulfs and bays. The other nations in the region are getting to know that this historical name is to their interest as well, and BBCs repetitious justification of the so-called impartiality in using a clipped name is but a disservice to all the coastal states of the Persian Gulf, and a clear example of distortion of an evident truth. Attempt to deny a truth is NOT impartiality. Beware not to be a double-loser!
Therefore, we insist that the policy adopted by the BBC in this regard would not be constructive, and hence, ask for an immediate and appropriate remedy which would only be the change of policy into using the correct and complete name of the PERSIAN GULF.
